Dr. h. c. prof. Mikuláš Šupín, Ph.D. is head and full professor of the Department of Marketing, Trade and World Forestry, Faculty of Wood Sciences and Technology, Technical University in Zvolen, Slovakia.

He received his MSc in Wood Technology at Wood Technology Faculty from University of Forestry and Wood Technology in Zvolen, Czecho-Slovakia (1976), Ph.D. in Using tropical lesser known species from Forest Research Institute and Colleges Dehra Dun, India (1984), Ph.D. in Sectoral and Cross-sectional Economics from University of Agriculture Brno, Czecho-Slovakia (1986), Associated professor in Forestry Economy and Management at Forestry Faculty from University of Forestry and Wood Technology in Zvolen Czecho-Slovakia (1989), Associated professor in Texture and structure of tropical hardwoods at Wood Technology Faculty from Technical University in Zvolen Czecho-Slovakia (1991), Professor in Forestry Policy from Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry Brno, Czech Republic (1998), Doctor Honoris Causa (Dr.h.c.) from Ural State Forest Engineering University Jekaterinburg, Russia (2002).

The major area of his scientific research is focused on research into global resources and their efficient use, including the composition of tropical forests from the ecological point of view, the use of lesser-known tropical timber species as a substitute for commercial timber species, international market research and international trade in renewable and sustainable sources, market analysis, econometric modeling and forecasting of the market and the consumer chain, international marketing and management. During his activity at Wood Sciences and Technology Faculty and Forestry Faculty, he has authored and co-authored over 138 scientific and professional publications, including 17 textbooks, 8 scientific monographs. 22 scientific papers have been indexed in the Web of Science and SCOPUS databases, of which 4 in the Current Contents Connect database. The publications have 332 citations, of which 116 are indexed in the WOS citation indexes and the SCOPUS databases. He was the principal investigator and co-author and investigator over 40 scientific and research projects, projects for praxis of which 12 international R&D projects, including 2 FP5 and FP6 projects, 3 COST projects, 1 FAO project. He participated in 5 research and education projects of the EU - OP. Within the Ph.D. study program, he was the tutor of 22 successful Ph.D. graduates, including 5 foreign Ph.D. graduates.

He was the Dean of the Wood Sciences and Technology Faculty, Technical University in Zvolen, Slovakia (1992 – 98), the Rector of the Technical University in Zvolen (2001 – 4), the President of the WoodEMA, i.a. (2013-15), the President of the Slovak Quality Society (2010-12), the General Director of the Science and Technology Division of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic (2006 - 11), member of the APVV Chairmanship (the Agency for the Support of Research and Development). He represented the Slovak Republic at various positions in the world's top research organizations and institutions as well as the EU, such as: CERN in Geneva (member of the Financial Committee, Vice-President Financial Committee), Joint Research Center (JRC) EU - member of the JRC Board of Governors, OECD EU – member of the Science and Technology Policy Committee, CREST - member of the Scientific and Technical Committee CREST EU.
